Server location
Web hosting on servers in London
Every Limitless Hosting plan runs on servers in London, and the whole UK is a short hop away. In a test on 7 November 2026, a probe in London reached our server in 5.4 ms. From Amsterdam it took 11.6 ms and from Nuremberg 21.4 ms. Short trips like that are why a UK website feels quick to UK visitors.
What this means for your site
- Your pages start loading sooner, because the trip to the server is short.
- Mobile visitors benefit most, as every extra delay is felt on a phone connection.
- Customer data stays on UK servers, which simplifies your privacy notice.
Why location matters
What server location changes for your website
Before a page can appear, the visitor's browser asks your server for it and waits for the reply.
Distance adds delay
Light in a cable only travels so fast, and every extra network hop adds a little more. A server near your visitors answers sooner.
A page needs several trips
One to find the server, one or two to set up a secure connection and one for the page itself. A UK to US east coast round trip commonly takes around 70 ms, and each trip pays that price. On a London server the same trips take a few milliseconds.
Small gains add up
The saving is small on any one trip and noticeable across a whole page load, especially on mobile connections and for busy shops and booking pages.
Visitors across the UK
Is a London server only for London businesses?
No. A server's location affects network distance, not who you can sell to. London is home to the UK's largest internet exchange, so many UK networks exchange traffic there, whether your visitor is in Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff or Belfast.
We test from a London probe only, so we cannot quote a figure for every city. To check your own route, run a ping or a speed test from where your customers are.
Check it yourself in three steps
- Open check-host.net and choose the ping test.
- Enter the address of any website, including ours.
- Compare the results from different countries, and repeat at a few times of day.

How we measured
We used a public tool, so anyone can repeat the test.
- Tool
- check-host.net, which runs tests from probe servers in several countries.
- Test
- ICMP ping, four requests from each probe, averaged.
- Target
- The London web server that serves our UK hosting accounts.
- Probes
- London, Amsterdam and Nuremberg.
- Date
- 7 November 2026
A ping measures network delay, not how fast a full page loads, which also depends on your website. These are single-day readings, so expect small differences when you test. About 5 ms from a London probe is what you would expect for a server in the London area, and the longer times from Amsterdam and Nuremberg grow in step with distance.
Questions we get asked
UK servers, data protection and Google
UK data protection and where your data lives
UK GDPR does not require your website to be hosted in the UK. It does regulate sending personal data to other countries, so if your customers' details sit on a UK server, you have one less transfer to explain in your privacy notice. You stay responsible for how you collect and use that data, so hosting in the UK helps with the paperwork and does not replace it.
Does a UK server help Google rankings?
Not much on its own. Google works out which country a site targets mainly from its domain, such as .co.uk, and from your settings in Search Console, and treats server location as a weak signal at most. What UK hosting does give you is a faster site for UK visitors, and speed supports both sales and the page experience measures Google reports.
Who gains most
Online shops, booking pages, local service businesses and any site people open from a phone. A personal blog will notice less, but it costs nothing extra to be close to your readers.
When it is not the best choice
If most of your visitors are on another continent, a server near them or a content delivery network in front of your site will serve them better. London suits sites whose customers are mostly in the UK.
What you get on these servers
The LiteSpeed web server, Redis object caching, Imunify360, free SSL, unlimited email accounts, CloudLinux account isolation, a ModSecurity firewall and DDoS protection on every plan. See the plans and prices or how the servers suit WordPress sites.
